Celeste Gibbs
Journalism, 2022
I am a recent graduate at the University of Canberra, completing a double Bachelors in Communications and Media, majoring in Journalism, and Arts, majoring in Global Studies.
I’d love to work in either print or radio journalism, with a specific focus on global politics and culture. My work has been broadcast on ABC Radio Canberra and 2CC Radio, and I am in inaugural publisher on The Owl UC. Currently, I work at 2CC Radio as a Producer and Panel Operator, and in the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources as a Policy Officer in International Engagement Strategy.
I’m passionate about storytelling, and all the mediums and ways we tell stories. For me, journalism is a key tool that can be used to connect communities, which is an integral role within news media, especially as the world grows more connected.
My global studies stream has been invaluable towards my personal growth and understanding of the world. Through my degree, I have achieved three Deans Excellence awards, have had research published in the Australasian Council of Undergraduate Research, and have had the opportunity to study the globalised impacts of journalism and the news, which has been invaluable in expanding my understanding of impact of the news media, and gain an appreciation for how interconnected journalism has always been.

Radio Package - VWhen was the last time you visited your local library? With apps like Libby, digital archives, and physical spaces for recording and filming, libraries are growing into community spaces that focus on creation, rather than collection. Nearly half of all Canberrans have a library membership, and Celeste Gibbs takes a look at some of the reasons why membership might be growing. This was broadcast on ABC Radio Canberra, and can be heard here: https://www.celestegibbs.com/copy-of-tiktok-2

A day among the vineyards
Parallax Scrolling Multimedia Piece - The average university student may not bother to take the 40-minute trip out to Murrumbateman. But, hidden among the hills and dusty backroads is a delightful day out. Read the full article here: https://theowluc.com/story/a-day-among-the-vineyards/

Behind the Camera - Exploring Makeup Artistry
Photo Video Piece - In an era of YouTube and accessible high fashion, make-up has grown into an industry of artistry. The work of these artists is often done behind the scenes, their canvases - the people they work their magic on, are often the focal point of their work. But the behind the scenes is just as gorgeous as the finished look, and today, we explore Sarina Dao’s story, a young make-up artist making her mark in Canberra. Studies in World Philosophies - Final Journal Article
In my global studies stream, I investigated how the history of print technologies have influenced the culture and work structure of journalism.
