Domenic Carnovale
Interior Architecture, 2022
Hi! I’m Domenic
During my high school and into my senior tertiary studies, I have explored both my technical hard and soft skills in the design realm. Through exploring various aspects of the art and design world, I have found my passion lies with all things interior architecture and design. Working with COX Architecture this year as a student has allowed me to put my passions and skills to use. My key motivation is; “if it’s ‘just enough’, then it’s not good enough”, and I always strive for excellence in my work. I am constantly determined to achieve the best in what I do and I believe that the idea of ‘success’, more often than not, comes from a diligent determination to learn and grow.

Selected Portfolio

NZA | Pamjoa Place | Wedding Venue
The central concept behind the event space is the integration of plantation and a large tree in the centre of the space, with the inclusion of a wraparound bar. One of the main design elements is the back-lit hanging plants that are positioned around the ceiling glazing. I designed three different floorplans for flexibility. In the indoor wedding option, the end of the aisle points directly at Black Mountain Tower, an amazing backdrop for a wedding ceremony. This also overlooks where the giraffes will have access to, again creating that immersive experience between a giraffe looking inside, and wedding guests looking at the giraffe. The conference option, when privacy is needed, can be closed with a glass operable and privacy floor or ceiling curtains. The addition, the open grill is an exclusive dining option, not only to the zoo but to Canberra’s dining experience where guests are cooked their food in front of them in an immersive experience.

NZA | Yenye Amani Huts | Accommodation
‘Yenye Amani Huts’ meaning feelings of peace and tranquillity, are pairs of huts that are separated into two zones – a couple’s zone and a family zone. Each contains a sleeping area, living area, tea point, bathroom, and picture windows looking into the giraffes. The same design language, that of the immersion of ceiling plantation in the glazing, is carried through to the accommodation for design continuity. Both the couples and family zone are places to escape the everyday stresses and worries we have. The couples zone features an outdoor bath surrounded by lush greenery to allow guests to fully immerse in the environment, aiding in the sense of wellness and wellbeing in architecture and design. The family zone also has an immersive shower room that overlooks the giraffes and an expansive landscaped environment.

NZA | Wellness Walks + Reflect
Following the organic curves of the land and the position of the pine trees, WELLNESS WALKS gives guests an opportunity to experience MOMENTS of pause, contemplation, and wonder while traversing the beautiful landscape. While viewing the GIRAFFES and native environment, guests will walk along a plant lined path that leads them through a series of MOMENTS in the form of arch thresholds. Each MOMENT engages 5 different experiences for the guest and aims to create a truly immersive experience, one that upholds the values of WELLNESS, WELLBEING, and BIOPHILIC design alike.
