Hannah Jane Shaw

Creative Writing, 2022

Welcome/ Croeso!

I am a 4th year student in my degree of Creative and Professional Writing with International Experience. My time in Australia is an additional experience year, added onto my degree from my home university of Bangor, North Wales, United Kingdom. I speak a little Welsh and am currently studying an entry level 1 and 2 in the language.

I will be graduating in July 2023 from Bangor University. I am very grateful to the university for selecting me for this opportunity to study overseas. Since my arrival in Australia in July 2022, I have continued to search for writing opportunities in both countries. I have recently submitted my work to Writers’ Forum Magazine in the UK as well as giving an online guest lecture to a third year Creative Writing class at Bangor University. I am excited to see my poetry being published in the upcoming issue of Curieux, the student magazine for the University of Canberra. It is also my pleasure to announce my acceptance of the role as Co editor for their magazine.

I enjoy writing poetry and short stories. I also have an interest in theatre in which I hope to develop skills for playwriting in future. Historical fiction and mystery are two of the genres that I like to explore. I also lean towards themes of the supernatural as well as highlighting the importance of neurodiversity in the writing world.

I am looking for future writing opportunities to add to my portfolio. I am happy to work remotely whilst I study and explore Australia. Depending on where I find myself, I may be flexible for in person opportunities as well. Please feel free to get in contact with me to discuss any ideas via my email.

Thank you/ Diolch!

Please find my short story ‘Reflexions of time’ linked below as a PDF. It is inspired by the history of Bangor University, built in 1884.
