Jess Brown

Visual Communication Design, 2022

My name is Jess Brown, and I am a Graphic Designer, about to graduate with a Bachelor of Design, in Visual Communication. I am skilled in branding, data visualisation, experiential design, problem identification and solving and packaging design (my skills are not limited to these areas, feel free to contact for further information). I am primarily aiming to work in a corporate environment after graduating. This aim was inspired during my time in internships. I have learnt that I enjoy the environment of being given lists of specific jobs to do, containing deadlines etc.  While I am working full time in a corporate job, I would also love to pick up small freelance jobs on the side, or joining in projects with other designers. This will be great for expressing myself creatively and will help me stay refreshed on how to collaborate with and learn from other designers.

Sustainable Packaging Design Solution

Sustainable Packaging Design Solution

Mintra Fresh is a made-up breath mint company that is 100% organic and sustainable. They are designed for activist consumers who are willing to spend the extra money to protect the environment. Mintra Fresh was originally going to be a packaging redesign for TicTac to become more sustainable than their existing packaging, which contains thick plastic container, which is extremely wasteful. Tictac stated that they will not be redesigning their packaging to be sustainable because it ruins their brand, and the idea that their packaging creates an exciting sound element, caused by the tictacs shaking against the plastic. Due to this, Mintra was created to be not only a company which uses sustainable packaging, but also with the product containing natural ingredients.

Sticker and Tote Designs

Sticker and Tote Designs

These totes and stickers were designed to fit within the tastes of University students, as a way to express themselves by using these accessories. These accessories were designed to be valued highly by the target market above regularly seen totes and stickers in stores, because they were designed by myself, someone who lies within the target group, and therefore understands and relates to their tastes and interests.

Refugee Support Solution

Refugee Support Solution

This marketing solution was designed for South Sudanese Australian women over the age of eighteen, based on extensive research. These women come from a culture where discussion of mental health is seen as a sign of weakness. These women have often come from a traumatic past and since they are loyal to such a way of living, they must be encouraged that discussion of mental health shows strength rather than weakness. The general concept for this idea is to have a weekly dinner party, which would have South Sudanese food and music. This is important because these women will likely miss these beautiful parts of their culture. In South Sudan, it is considered very odd if you eat dinner alone. It is generally enjoyed with the company of their families. Having a dinner with other South Sudanese women can help them feel comforted, plus the music will help the vibe to feel more relaxed than formal. The music can also be enjoyed through dancing and having fun.
