Nicola Ceccato
Journalism, 2021
Growing up in regional NSW, I have become passionate about telling stories from those voices we don’t often hear from, because every story is worth hearing.
I have a keen interest in all formats of storytelling such as audio, video and writing, of which I aim to further develop throughout my career.
As a journalist, I believe ethical behaviour and understanding people’s situations are key to writing valuable stories that communities will engage with. I am also a big advocate for rural and regional news and bringing news back to local communities.
During my time at university I’ve had a range of experience such as internships at The Canberra Times and 2CA, volunteer work at 1RPH radio station and university clubs, as well as experience in publishing and writing stories through various outlets. These experiences have helped me develop strong time management skills, steadfast writing and audio/video editing skills and a broader understanding of how we can tell stories to make a difference.

A land before time
Hidden by a city that was built over it, Ngunnawal country holds stories of the past that escape the dominant narrative of Canberra. It tells the stories of our First Nation's people and their use of the land. Read it now on: https://nowuc.shorthandstories.com/a-land-before-time/index.html

Homelessness misconceptions
For every 10,000 people in Australia, there are 50 people suffering from homelessness every day and each of them are under a banner of common misconceptions society force onto them. Canberran men Steve and Ben were homeless a few years ago and went through the Street to Home program. This is their story on how they ended up on the streets.
