Architecture, 2021

Hi, my name is Nothando Mbogo, and I have just completed my Bachelor of the Built Environment (Architecture). These past 3 years have been a great journey of learning from my tutors and peers. Since a young age I’ve had a passion for architecture, and it is satisfying watching this semester ends with a number of skills and abilities which I didn’t expect the first day of 1st year

I love finding different ways to express myself creatively, whether that be art, architecture or music which have been side hustles of mine since young. Video games and high school helped to keep the motivation brewing for the time before UC, when I was yet to discover architecture.

In future, I hope to be involved in a range of projects, namely Residential or Commercial architecture; and more recently with this Graduation Studio project, Civic architecture. Luckily the possibilities are endless and hope to continue to enhance my skills in both professional and personal aspects.

'Candescent'

Candescent is an elemental design which creates a cultural hub in Canberra City Precinct. As a response to the site parameters, it brings together the elements of Civic Architecture to draw in visitors to a space that currently repels them. Using a glass box as a ground level beacon invites pedestrians to explore the under croft and inner chambers, which they are seamlessly coerced into using external ramps and an internal staircase. Its connectivity to other thriving and upcoming hubs makes for an unobstructed flow of movement, making Candescent a spatially sound response to Canberra’s intent to; in future, become a metropolis.
