Creative Writing, 2022

Hi there! My name is Sophie Iqbal and I am 20 years old, and all about creative writing! I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing at the University of Canberra, and I am aiming to graduate by mid-year, 2022. From there I will venture out into the world of employment, and preferably something related to creative writing or writing in any form. I currently work two jobs; a part-time front end team member at Woolworths, as well as the role of an ASK Advisor at the University of Canberra. My passion and main types of writing include novels, short stories and poetry. My writing career so far has led me to self-publishing three novels on the website Wattpad, as well as attending a University of Canberra staff writing workshop hosted by LibraryForAll. I have also created an instragram page to showcase my poetry, @sophieiqbalpoetry.

Murrumbidgee River

Murrumbidgee River

This is a prose poem written about a location that is very meaningful to me, Murrumbidgee River. This river holds many dear memories, and was a special hideaway for me and my former lover. Although I don't visit this location anymore, it will continue to live on through my memories.

Lion

Lion

This is a poem I wrote one day whilst sitting in my car opposite to the National Zoo and Aquarium, after I heard a vibrating lion roar. The roar was so much more than just a sound, I remember the vibrations it carried and I felt it pinch my heart. From there, a fearful sort of respect was developed for that lion, even though I was sitting safely in my car many meters away.

Father

Father

This is an acrostic poem I wrote for my dad on Father's Day. It is a short and meaningful piece that shows my love and gratitude.
